Detectives with the Houston Police Department are relying nearly entirely on information provided by the girl's stepfather, Darion Vence, who says he was ambushed by the men while driving to the airport Friday night with Maleah and his 2-year-old son.

Darion Vence, the girl's stepfather, said he was headed to pick up the girl's mother from Bush Intercontinental Airport on Friday night when he heard a popping noise and pulled over, The Houston Chronicle reported.

By late Sunday morning, police had issued an update that said Maleah's stepfather told authorities that he, Maleah and Maleah's 2-year-old brother were "abducted by 3 males sometime Friday night" in North Houston.

Police later issued a photograph of Vence showing a mark on his forehead, hoping that people may recognize him since he can not recollect nearly 24 hours.

Vence's next recollection is finding himself on Highway 6 in Sugar Land, according to police, at around 6 p.m, with his 2-year-old son Kourtland. His daughter was gone. Maleah and Vence's toddler son were sitting in the backseat.

When he pulled over to the side of the road to check, Vence told police a blue pickup pulled off behind him and two Hispanic men got out.

She's had multiple brain surgeries, the most recent only last month. She never reported Vence or her children missing, he said. Vence then lost consciousness.

According to police, Vence remained unconscious for almost 24 hours before fully waking up around 6pm on Saturday on Highway 6 and realizing that Maleah was gone.

At a media conference police say they do not know the motive behind the kidnapping.

The surgeries were to help an injury heal, Holbrook said, adding that "she's needed a lot of car".

"We'd love for the public to help us so we can fill in the blanks in this story", Holbrook said.

The family's auto, a silver Nissan Altima, which is now also missing, was spotted by a traffic camera driving through an intersection in Sugar Land at 2:54 p.m. on Saturday.

Maleah was last seen wearing a pink bow in her hair, a light blue zip-up jacket, blue jeans and gray, white and pink sneakers. He was in and out of consciousness until he and his son were eventually dropped off in Sugar Land on Saturday, police said.

The National Center for Missing Exploited Children described Maleah as African-American with black hair, and brown eyes.

She is 3 feet tall and weighs about 30 to 40 pounds.
