Teacher's Pet podcast Chris Dawson arrested over death of his wife Lyn


She was 33 years old.

Chris Dawson, has always been a suspect in the case but the former Newtown Jets rugby league player denies any involvement in her disappearance.

Police arrested Mr Dawson in Queensland and said he would be extradited to NSW.

Mr Dawson's family released a statement yesterday, insisting he would be found not guilty.

Police allege Mr Dawson was in the process of divorce from his wife and he was having an "illicit affair".

Magistrate Dennis Kinsella denied Mr Dawson's bail application, saying he was an unacceptable risk of failing to appear.

NSW police have stated they are comfortable with the strength of the case against Dawson despite not finding the body of Lyn. He held his head in his hands while the allegations against him were read out.

Just before 8am (local time) on Wednesday, Dawson was arrested by Queensland Police detectives in the presence of Strike Force Scriven investigators at Biggera Waters on the Gold Coast.

Discussing the prosecution's case against the 70-year-old, Commissioner Fuller said "no doubt it will be a voluminous brief with an enormous amount of evidence, and there will be a number of witnesses called." .

He has said that she abandoned the family for a religious group.

The disappearance was the focus of "The Teacher's Pet", which was created by journalists from The Australian newspaper, the Telegraph reported.

"I wouldn't have written to the DPP otherwise", he said.

"Statements from witnesses helped us tie pieces of the puzzle together".

The success of Teacher's Pet pressured police into renewing their investigation, leading to the arrest yesterday.

In 2015, NSW homicide detectives established Strike Force Scriven to re-investigate the circumstances surrounding Lynette Dawson's disappearance and suspected murder.

An application for a warrant was lodged after NSW Police received advice back from the DPP earlier this week.

"A team of dedicated detectives has been investigating this case over the past three years", Det Supt Cook said.
