China continues to remain the largest emitter of the world, with its emissions in 2018 likely to reach 10.3 billion tonnes, an increase of 4.7 per cent from past year.

Global emissions of carbon dioxide mainly from fossil fuel burning will rise 2.7% in 2018, scientists said Wednesday, signalling a world "completely off course" in the fight against climate change.

The increase in emissions was calculated by the Global Carbon Project, a team of researchers from 50 universities and institutes who study energy statistics and economic forecasts.
