Four people are dead, including an ER doctor and a police officer, after a gunman killed his ex-fiancee and two others at Mercy Hospital in Chicago this morning.

Earlier, witnesses said a gunman repeatedly shot a woman near a parking lot outside the building before entering the hospital and opening fire.

Dayna Less, 25, was shot and killed during Monday's tragic shooting as she exited an elevator at Mercy Hospital, according to the Chicago Tribune.

Dennis Burke, who lives across the street from the hospital, was getting off the bus when he heard six gunshots and saw officers nearby with their guns drawn.

"Officers observed him with a handgun", Johnson said. The hospital was on lockdown as police searched each floor to ensure there were no other shooters.

The police officers involved in the shooting have been placed on administrative leave, pending an investigation into the shooting. We are working closely with the Hoover Police Department and are grateful for their swift action to contain the situation.

The gunman, whom authorities have identified as 32-year-old Juan Lopez, first opened fire outside the hospital, shooting his ex-fiancée, Dr. Tamara O'Neal.

A police officer who was also among those wounded in the shooting has now died officials said.

Dr O'Neal was an emergency physician at Mercy Hospital on Chicago's south side.

During a news conference, Mayor Rahm Emmanuel said: "The city of Chicago lost a doctor, a pharmaceutical assistant, and a police officer". When she reported the texts to police, officers told her to change her phone number and seek an order of protection.

They included one of the city's deadliest shootings involving an officer, another police shooting involving a fugitive in Bronzeville, and three civilian shootings that left two dead and two wounded.

One employee of the hospital's family clinic heard eight or nine shots.

The report States that during the shooting in the hospital in Chicago, five people died, including an unknown person who opened fire on the staff and patients of medical institutions.

The gunman was seen arguing with the doctor, Tamara O'Neal, who he had been in a relationship with, before shooting her and turning his gun on others.

Chicago police responded to the scene at Mercy Hospital and Medical Center at 2525 S. Michigan Ave. for reports of shots fired just before 3:30 p.m. Monday.

The officers "saved a lot of lives because we just don't know how much damage he was prepared to do", Johnson said.

Should you bet on the absurdly high Rams-Chiefs over/under?
The Rams (9-1) will host the Chiefs (9-1) at the Coliseum instead, in a game that could be a rehearsal for the Super Bowl in 2019. Not many people are going to bat an eye if a game between, say, the Oakland Raiders and Buffalo Bills is played in Mexico City.

Police said he was married and the father of three children. At least one "potential offender" was also shot, he wrote, urging the public to avoid the area.
