Foes' prosecution sought by Trump

Trump is trying to order the Justice Department to prosecute former Federal Bureau of Investigation director James Comey and his old presidential opponent, Hillary Clinton.

A lawyer for McGahn told the Times that Trump "never, to his knowledge, ordered that anyone prosecute Hillary Clinton or James Comey".

"I never heard him do it [break the law] by turning on his enemies and trying to put them in jail", Dean said of Nixon. "Which among other things proves the president was flat out lying when he said he didn't know Matt Whitaker".

It said that McGahn, who has since left the White House, advised Trump that he could face the risk of impeachment if he took such a measure.

Netanyahu may very well still feel pressure from his right flank next time there is an escalation in Gaza or on other fronts. Some citizens of Israel have also been publicly vocal about their disappointment in the prime minister's decisions.

Also on the list was Clinton's use of a home-brew server on which she sent thousands of unrecorded emails.

"Like any client, the president is entitled to confidentiality".

McGahn reportedly told Trump that the president had no authority to order a prosecution, and that even formally demanding an investigation-rather than Trump's off-the-cuff remarks and tweets about the matter-could lead to accusations of abuse of power.

"As a matter of constitutional authority, the president would have the authority to make that kind of request", Gonzales told CNN, "but, you know, if the president had asked me to convey that order to the attorney general, I would have had a very candid conversation with the president as to why that would be inappropriate and risky, politically".

I wished him strength and said that he had officiated the game well. "It's a small thing , but maybe it helps him", he added.

And in 2017, Trump pressed then-Attorney General Jeff Sessions to study whether Clinton misdeeds called for further investigation, but Sessions pushed back on the idea of appointing a special counsel to oversee such a probe.

The White House did not immediately respond to a request for comment on the report.

The president named Pat Cipollone as his replacement, but the noted commercial lawyer and conservative Catholic activist has not been seen at the White House.

Gonzales later acknowledged Trump doesn't appear to have acted on his desire to investigate Clinton and Comey.
