Lion Air plane crashes into lamp pole on Indonesian airport runway

The news comes as the US Federal Aviation Administration issued an emergency airworthiness directive on how to handle incorrect data from the sensor which investigators believe malfunctioned on the jet.

A spokesperson for Boeing wouldn't disclose to CNN whether the directive was issued to operators of all Boeing aircraft, or just those who fly 737 MAX 8 planes - the same model as Flight 610.

Indonesia's Garuda airlines said it had not received any bulletins from Boeing, either. It stressed that pilots should follow procedures in the flight manual when encountering erroneous data.

The warning is based on preliminary findings from the accident involving a Lion Air jetliner, a source said.

Bryce Harper rejected 10-year, $300M offer from Nats
The 2015 National League MVP, Harper hit.249 last season with 34 home runs and 100 RBIs as the Nationals missed the playoffs. Mike Rizzo says the Nationals are open to more negotiations with Harper in the future, and Scott Boras feels the same.

The sensor had malfunctioned on four previous flights of the Lion Air aircraft and was replaced the day before the October 29 crash, according to Indonesian aviation officials. It was Indonesia's worst air disaster in 20 years.

The Lion Air crash was the first involving the type of plane, which airlines introduced into service previous year. The pilots radioed a request to return to Jakarta to land, but never turned back toward the airport, according to Indonesia's National Transportation Safety Committee and flight-track data.

Angle of attack is a technical term that refers to the angle between the oncoming air or relative wind and a reference line on the airplane or wing, according to Boeing.

The FAA said the order is effective immediately and covers 45 aircraft in the United States operated by carriers including Southwest Air Co, United Airlines and American Airlines Group Inc and addresses erroneous angle of attack inputs.

Florida OKs Voting Rights for Some Felons: What Happens Next
Voter registration deadlines could become a thing of the past in three states that are making it easier to take part in elections. On the other hand, Voter ID requirement laws passed in the two states where they were on the ballot-Arkansas and North Carolina.

Boeing introduced the 737 MAX 8 to commercial service in May 2017 with Malindo Air, a Malaysian subsidiary of Lion Air.

"A "ping" has been detected from the second black box but the signal was very weak, possibly because it was encased in mud", said Nurcahyo Utomo, an air accident official at the transportation safety committee (KNKT).

If there is an "uncommanded nose-down stabilizer trim" on the Max, pilots can counteract it by pushing a switch on their control yoke.

But Boeing said in its statement on Wednesday that it was directing airlines to "existing" flight crew procedures to address angle of attack sensor problems.

Trump, Obama Stage Dueling Rallies Ahead of Midterms
Heading into Election Day, Democrats have an enthusiasm edge, but Republicans have been getting steadily amped up, too. Trump said Donnelly, a first-term senator, was ineffective and referred to him as "Sleepin' Joe".

The FAA, which regulates the U.S. aviation industry, has not received any reports of airspeed issues with the model in the United States, said a person familiar with its reviews, who asked not to be named as he was not authorized to speak. In the early days of the jet age, the elevator trim system was linked to several accidents.
