Verstappen was third in Japan earlier this month and then stormed through from 18th on the grid to finish second in the US Grand Prix on Sunday.

Ricciardo's race last just eight laps until he pulled over at the side of Turn 11 with a terminal auto problem.

Horner, speaking to Sky Sports after the race, said he sympathised with Ricciardo for the emotional outburst.
