Drew Brees Becomes All-Time Passing Leader on 62-Yard TD Pass

Brees is roughly 5,000 yards ahead of the next active player on the all-time passing list - No. 4 Tom Brady at 67,077.

New Orleans Saints quarterback Drew Brees broke Peyton Manning's all-time passing record of 71,940 yards during the second quarter of Monday night's game against the Washington Redskins. Brees will go down as one of the best quarterbacks EVER to play the game.

It was expected that Drew Brees would pass Peyton Manning for the all-time passing yards record on Monday night in New Orleans, but the way that it happened was pretty special.

The 39-year-old signal caller was honored during a brief stoppage in play after breaking the record, receiving an ovation from players and fans at the Mercedes-Benz Superdome in New Orleans as he huddled with his family and Saints owner Gayle Benson. But one thing the microphones picked up which wasn't immediately noticed was what Brees told his children after he broke the record.

The national disaster agency says 1,700 homes in one neighbourhood alone were swallowed up and hundreds of people killed. Fuel remained another concern, with villagers forced to queue at pumps for more than six hours.

Brees' teammates ran toward their quarterback as he jogged behind the play, and a group of them formed a jumping, celebrating mass of black and gold next to the Saints' fleur-de-lis emblem on the 50-yard line.

"I knew we were within striking distance" of the record, Brees said.

Brees came into Week 5 not only leading the NFL in completion percentage, but with a mark higher than the 72.0 he posted previous year, which set a single-season league record.

This record is just the latest entry in Brees' Hall of Fame-bound career.
