California net neutrality bill signed by Jerry Brown

Ahead of Brown signing the bill, Trump-appointed Federal Communications Commission (FCC) chairman Ajit Pai slammed the California's net-neutrality effort as "a radical, anti-consumer internet regulation" that in his view is illegal.

They had cheered California's attempt to force the Obama-era rules back into effect through state legislation.

The Federal Communications Commission previous year repealed rules that prevented internet companies from exercising more control over what people watch and see on the internet.

A new law requires publicly traded companies headquartered in California, including Facebook and Google, to include women on their board of directors.

In response to the new California law, Attorney General Jeff Sessions said "states do not regulate interstate commerce - the federal government does".

USTelecom, which represents companies like AT&T and Verizon, on Sunday said the California measure would not "help advance the promise and potential of California's innovation DNA", calling on Congress to "step up with a national framework for the whole internet ecosystem and resolve this issue once and for all".
