Second North Korea summit 'quite soon'


Trump on Monday characterised the agreement with South Korea as "a brand new agreement" rather than an incremental change.

The Trump administration is turning to allies in Asia and Europe for trade deals as US relations with China deteriorate and the two world's largest economies exchange tit-for-tat tariffs that risk damaging global commerce.

Trump is set to address the U.N. General Assembly Tuesday morning and will chair a meeting of the Security Council Wednesday on counter-proliferation.

The softer tone toward the erstwhile pariah state of North Korea - once threatened with "fire and fury" - has been replaced by rosy optimism, with Trump reserving tough rhetoric for another potential nuclear aspirant and strategic foe: Iran.

Haspel reaffirmed the long-standing US intelligence view that North Korean officials see the country's nuclear weapons program as "essential to their regime's survival", noting that getting Pyongyang to change course will still be a tough sell.
