Only Man City and Liverpool are challenging for title - Sarri

Ahead of Saturday's Premier League tie against Cardiff City, Chelsea boss Maurizio Sarri explained that he is "open to the idea" of Terry's surprise return.

Terry, 37, who left Aston Villa in the summer after one season with the Championship club, turned down an offer from Spartak Moscow this week for family reasons.

Asked about the possibility of Terry joining Chelsea as a player, Sarri said: 'It would be on the coaching staff, I think, because, as I've said before, we want to give space to the young players.

"If there is a pitch and there are 11 players, I feel at home anywhere", Sarri said.

"I am talking about a week ago, I don't know the situation". He has won everything with the club'.

"At the moment, for me, Liverpool and Man City are better than us".

Terry is unlikely to be returning to Stamford Bridge, for now, but he is working with the academy players at Chelsea's Cobham training ground as he seeks his coaching qualifications, with a long-term target in mind. "What I like about him is that he is so confident".

Chelsea FC have won all four of their opening Premier League games so far this season to leave them leading the way and level on points with early leaders Liverpool FC.

The defender admitted the fact that there is a lot of pressure associated with playing for a club like Chelsea, while also claiming that it was the same pressure that helped them win the Champions League in 2012.

On the win which extended Chelsea's winning run to five matches under their new manager Maurizio Sarri, he added: 'The game was very tough.

"Manchester City and Liverpool are another step up to us but I think we can improve".

While the Blues have managed to adopt Sarri's offensive tactics very well, with the club now having made the most passes of all Premier League sides with 2,995 and a passing accuracy of 89% (equal to Manchester City), the Italian feels that there is still room for improvement, particularly on the defensive phase of their game - something he had earlier mentioned needs a complete change of the mind.
