South Korean envoys in meeting with Kim Jong Un

In Washington, White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said in a statement that Moon briefed Trump on his plan to send a special envoy to Pyongyang on Wednesday to meet Kim.

"The reason the delegation consists of the same officials from the first delegation is because the government considered the importance of continuity in dialogue with North Korea in achieving the objective of the North Korea trip", Kim Eui-kyeom, a spokesman for the presidential office Cheong Wa Dae, told a press briefing. The team includes National Intelligence Service head Suh Hoon and Vice Unification Minister Chun Hae-sung.

"The delegation will set off for North Korea on the fifth via the direct route on the western side of the Peninsula, and they'll return to the South the same day".

Washington is unlikely to provide sanctions relief, diplomatic recognition or the reduction of USA forces in South Korea unless North Korea takes major steps on denuclearization.

Kim was paraphrased in the statement by his propaganda specialists as saying that it was "his will to completely remove the danger of armed conflict and horror of war from the Korean peninsula and turn it into the cradle of peace without nuclear weapons and free from nuclear threat".
