Disney is hoping they can use their Pixar, Marvel, and Lucasfilm libraries, along with NatGeo to build on an already extensive library of shows and movies from Disney. For years, Disney and Netflix have had an amicable partnership that has allowed the latter to house some of its most valuable property, including the new Star Wars films and the Marvel Cinematic Universe, while also attaching Marvel's name to some of their flagship original series.

Among the streaming service's offerings, fans will get a brand new live-action Star Wars series from Iron Man helmer Jon Favreau, which is rumored to take place three years after the events of Return of the Jedi.

The strategy is bound to be short-lived though, with Disney readying the service to challenge Netflix at every turn. After that, though, all future Marvel Studios superhero films will stream exclusively on Disney's still unnamed service.

Iger said he did not believe the launch of an OTT TV service would complicate Disney's relationship with its distribution partners and said traditional distributors were "very, very interested in distributing our D2C products" just as they increasingly distribute Netflix. Users can expect to find some recent theatrical releases like Captain Marvel and the live-action remake of Dumbo (both releasing in March of 2019), as well as some original programming for the streaming service like Anna Kendrick's upcoming holiday film Noelle and a High School Musical series.

There's no way Disney's streaming service won't experience a few hiccups upon launch, but as long as it has the company's biggest blockbuster titles on there, subscribers will flock to it. Now a new article in the New York Times reveals that the ten-episode first season of the Favreau Star Wars series will have a combined budget of $100 million, making each episode roughly $10 million a piece.
