Everton remain in contact with Barcelona over a deal to sign Colombia defender Yerry Mina, Sky Sports News understands.

Spanish outlet SPORT claimed over the weekend that Everton were closing in on the signing of the Barcelona centre-back, after he starred at this summer's World Cup - even scoring against England.

Manchester United are reportedly confident of agreeing a £60m deal for Toby Alderweireld in the next 48 hours. However, it seemed that Manchester United had stolen a march on the Toffees as reports filtered through over the weekend that Mina had agreed on personal terms with the Red Devils.

Despite a strong World Cup performance that saw him score three goals in Russian Federation, the defender has been pushed further down the Barca pecking order with the arrival of Clement Lenglet.

Bringing in Yerry Mina would take their spending to around the £100m mark.

Mina is set to cost around £30million - less than half the price of Alderweireld and Maguire, and he will represent a big profit for Barca who only paid Palmeiras £10million for him in January.

The defender made only five appearances in La Liga last season after playing second fiddle to the likes of Gerard Pique and Samuel Umtiti.

Bookmakers now make United favourites to land Mina ahead of their Premier League rivals.
