Charlotte Rae, 'Facts of Life' Star, Dead at 92


Charlotte Rae, who appeared in the US TV series Diff'rent Strokes and Facts of Life, has died aged 92.

Rae revealed she'd been diagnosed with bone cancer at the end of April 2017.

'About seven years ago, I was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer - which is a miracle that they found it because usually, it's too late.

As Edna Garrett, the witty housekeeper from "Diff'rent Strokes", Rae managed to steal the hearts of millions - so much, in fact, that she later earned her own spinoff. She earned an Emmy nomination for the part, and she was a two-time Tony nominee for her work on Broadway.

Her career spanned more than 60 years, with appearances on stage, classic TV series like "Playhouse 90" and more.

By Thursday afternoon search teams were back in the area, combing the nearby fields for any trace of the missing girl, according to Fox News .

She starred in the TV comedy "Car 54, Where Are You?" in the early '60s.

Celebrated stage and screen actress Charlotte Rae died on Sunday at her home in Los Angeles.

"I'm feeling so terrific and so glad to be above ground", she explained. In lieu of flowers, the family is asking that donations be made to the, The Actors Fund, Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (Pan-Can) or the Clare Foundation. She has 93 acting credits to her name, according to TMZ.

"I had attractive wigs", Rae said.

"The Facts of Life" debuted in 1979 and centered around Mrs. Garrett's relationship with a group of girls she met in the season 1 finale of "Diff'rent Strokes". "I'm grateful for the life I've already had". She finally left the show in 1986 for health reasons, replaced by Cloris Leachman.

Garrett continued to work frequently later in life, guest-starring in select episodes of Sisters, ER, The King of Queens and Pretty Little Liars.

Rae is survived by her sister, Miriam Guten as well as son, Larry, his wife, Eleanor Strauss, grandchildren, Sean Strauss, Carly Fox and her husband Ethan Fox, and Nora Sidoti Magdol and her wife Katrina Sidoti Magdol and their daughter Louisa Sidoti Magdol.

Upon hearing the news, stars including Kathy Griffin, Audra McDonald, Eric West and co-star Todd Bridges have been quick to send their love.

The Facts of Life star Kim Field tweeted: "You already know my heart is heavy yet, sorry, no words at the moment just love and tears and yeah, smiles".
