The battle between the U.S. and Iran reignited after the administration's decision to depart from the Iranian nuclear deal and re-impose sanctions against the Islamic regime.

Separately, a top Iranian military commander warned that the Trump government might be preparing to invade Iran. "BE CAUTIOUS!" Trump tweeted Sunday night.

On Monday, the White House said the United States president's tweet shows he is not going to tolerate critical rhetoric from Iran and insisted Mr Trump is not escalating tensions between the two countries.

Trump has previously suggested that Iranian leaders are going to request a new deal, but Iran has rejected talks on several occasions.

"COLOR US UNIMPRESSED: The world heard even harsher bluster a few months ago".

"And Iranians have heard them - albeit more civilised ones - for 40 yrs".

Rouhani also dismised the idea that the United States could stop Iran from exporting oil, according to Al Jazeera.

The U.S.is "undertaking a diplomatic and financial pressure campaign to cut off the funds that the regime uses to enrich itself and support death and destruction", Pompeo said.

"The level of corruption and wealth among regime leaders shows that Iran is run by something that resembles the mafia more than a government". We are noble people and we have guaranteed in the history security of the Strait in the region.

The United States in May pulled out of the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action, setting a clock ticking on unilateral sanctions on Iran. "We will not stay silent either".

Iran's President Hassan Rouhani says there's no need to respond to President Donald Trump's "empty threats". "Be cautious!" Trump said, writing the entire message in capital letters.

Iran's economy and currency has tanked since Trump withdrew Washington from the 2015 Iranian nuclear agreement.

Within hours, Iran's state-owned news agency IRNA dismissed the tweet, describing it as a "passive reaction" to Rouhani's remarks.

The secretary accused Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei, Iran's head of state, of maintaining a personal off-the-books hedge fund worth $95 billion.

Iran has rejected talks with the USA, and Mr Rouhani has accused the U.S. of stoking an "economic war".

So does his stance on the underlying motivations for a potential attack against Iran-like he threatened on Sunday-still apply? "Besides, you basically made the same threat to KJU before your Singapore meeting and North Korea's nuclear program is stronger than ever", he concluded.
