Zarif's tweet comes less than a day after Trump posted a furious Twitter warning to Iranian President Hassan Rouhani.

"Those who are afraid of this mad president's psychological warfare will find that America will be content with nothing less than our annihilation".

Earlier on Sunday, Rouhani had told Iranian diplomats: "Mr. Trump, don't play with the lion's tail, this would only lead to regret".

As for how Trump's response has been received, Iran's state news agency said the tweet was typical of the American president's "bullying words".
