WhatsApp has new features and tips to detect fake news

This comes after the Indian Government ordered WhatsApp to take steps to curb the spread of misinformation on its platform. WhatsApp responded by adding a Forwarded Label to messages which are being recirculated.

Group chats have had new admin controls added which allow only admins to write in the group, to make it more like a messaging board. Interestingly, despite this claim, the new feature can presumably be bypassed by anyone quite easily.

In essence, the success of this new feature depends upon which of the two methods users generally tend to employ when passing on messages received from someone else.

One of its promised steps was the launch of a feature which labels all forwarded messages and provides a chance for people to think before they forward something or believe a text that has been sent en masse.

Operation resumes to rescue boys trapped in flooded Thai cave
Channel News Asia has also reported seeing ambulances carrying the sixth and seventh boys arriving at the Chiang Rai hospital. That makes for eight of the 13 people who have been trapped under increasingly risky conditions since late last month.

According to WABetaInfo, WhatsApp has begun testing the new feature as part of beta version 2.18.204 for Android.

At the centre of many controversies for being a platform being used to spread "fake news", WhatsApp is now suggesting ways to combat this menace.

A newspaper vendor in New Delhi reads a paper with a full back-page advertisement from WhatsApp meant to counter fake information on July 10, 2018.

Facebook is again in the news after a fake news that spread from it's most used messaging platform resulted in the death of 12 people by different mobs in India.

UK Brexit ministers Davis and Baker quit in major blow to May
The move, while not completely surprising, throws doubt on to how secure the government's Brexit strategy is. There are now only two ministers remaining in the Department for Exiting the European Union.

The government had also made it clear, last week, that WhatsApp "cannot evade accountability and responsibility".

"We are starting an education campaign in India on how to spot fake news and rumours", a WhatsApp spokesman said in a statement.

With the update, forwarded messages will have a small "forwarded" label, similar to forwarded email messages, indicating the note was originally written by someone other than the sender. The false messages that warned parents about child abductors were sometimes accompanied by gruesome videos of child abuse. Last week, Facebook announced that researchers could earn $50,000 for proposals related to "detection of problematic behavior within encrypted systems", among other topics.
