Tropical Storm Chris could become hurricane

In an 11 p.m. advisory, National Hurricane Center forecasters said the storm continued to intensify Friday with sustained winds reaching 80 miles per hour.

Elsewhere in the Caribbean, a tropical storm warning remains in effect for Dominica and Guadeloupe while Martinique, St Martin, St Barthelemy, Saba, St Eustatius and St Maarten are on tropical storm watch.

Beryl will bring a chance of tropical storm winds to the Lesser Antilles late Sunday and into Monday before moving to the west.

Beyond the Lesser Antilles, Beryl looks to slide just south of Puerto Rico and Hispaniola sometime late Sunday into Monday. Hurricane Beryl, now southeast of the Lesser Antilles in the southern Caribbean, is considered a small storm, creating some uncertainty about the analysis, according to the U.S. National Hurricane Center. Puerto Rico could see minimal tropical-storm winds, said CNN meteorologist Taylor Ward, but it is hard to predict Beryl's track beyond the 48-hour period.

Tropical Storm Beryl formed Thursday afternoon in the tropical Atlantic Ocean.

Berg said forecasters aren't expecting it to move inland, "but it could get close enough to the coast to cause some impacts like wind and heavy rain".
